Rinjani can be hot and sunny on the savanna in the afternoon and close to freezing at the summit before sunrise. Packing right makes the difference between a hard trek and a great one. Here is what to bring on a Rinjani join group trek.
What we provide
On every join group trek we provide the tent, sleeping bag, mattress, toilet tent, all meals, fruit and drinking water on the trek, and porters to carry the camping gear and food. You only carry a small daypack with your personal things.
Clothes
- A warm jacket (fleece or down) – essential for the summit morning
- A light rain jacket or windbreaker
- Long trekking pants, plus shorts or light pants for the hot savanna
- T-shirts that dry quickly
- Warm hat and gloves
- Extra socks
- Swimwear for the hot springs (3D2N and 4D3N treks)
Shoes
Good hiking shoes with a strong grip are the most important item. The way to the summit is loose volcanic gravel, and the descents are steep. Sandals are fine at camp, not on the trail.
Small things that matter
- Headlamp with fresh batteries – the summit push starts in the dark
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap
- A small daypack (20–30 litres)
- Personal medicine and blister plasters
- Power bank
- Toilet paper and wet wipes
- A small bag for your own trash
