Choosing the right month makes a big difference on Mount Rinjani. Here is what you should know before you book your Rinjani join group trek.
Dry season: roughly April to November
The dry season is the main trekking season. You have the best chance of clear skies, a sunrise over the crater and good views from the summit. Trails are dry and easier to walk. In this period our join groups depart almost every day, so it is also the easiest time to find a group for your date.
Rainy season
During the wettest months the trails become slippery and the weather on the mountain is less predictable. The Mount Rinjani National Park usually closes the trails for a period during the rainy season, early in the year. The exact dates are decided by the national park each year – always message us before you plan your trip.
Weather on the mountain
Even in the dry season, Rinjani can surprise you. Days on the savanna can be hot, while nights at the crater rim and the summit morning are cold and windy. Bring warm layers whatever month you come – see our Rinjani packing list.
Busy or quiet?
The middle of the dry season is the busiest time on the mountain. The start and end of the season are often quieter. For a join group this doesn't change much: a sharing group has a maximum of 8 trekkers (TNGR rule), so your group stays small either way.
